Signs of MS

It is important to diagnose multiple scleroses at an early stage, but a diagnose is very hard to make, because, the symptoms will vary for one person to another.  One patient may have vision problems with pain and numbness.  Another may have a problem with their balance, is dizzy and tired all the time.  All of these symptoms can  be felt by another patient and some patients have the symptoms come and go, while others have the symptoms all the time.   A doctor  must find signs of damage to the spinal cord, the brain or the optic nerve to make a definitive diagnose.

Multiple scleroses does not have a cure, as yet, but there are medications that can help, and rehabilitation to help you to recover your motor skills, and there are assistance tools, to help you get around.  For more information on the signs of multiple scleroses visit this site.http://www.howtodealwithms.com/2010/06/25/signs-of-ms.html

Seniors Crusing the World, Instead of Livimg in a Nursing Home

At Cape Canaveral, Florida there is a cruse ship that is selling or renting retirement condos.  The price range is $59,000 to $399,000 according to how much room you need.  The lower cost would be a regular cabin like room, but, would be on the out side of the ship, so you would have a view of the ocean.  The price rises with the rooms you would need.  The inside cabins would be reserved for family and friends of the condo owners, which would include all their meals.  The resident fee, you would pay, would pay for the management of the vessel, all meals, laundry and cleaning.  The resident would have access to all the other amenities on board: pools, gym/spa, deck chairs, lounges, doctors with sickbay.  Then there is nightly entertainment, shopping, hair salons, and other places, to spend money for pleasure.  This ship would stay in port a lot of the time, but, there will be times it will set sail for the Bahamas or Central America, so, you would travel in this situation.

This life style could cost less than a nursing home, and, it would make the rest of your life a lot more fun.  The criteria for the person who would wish to experience this life style, would be healthy, be able to get around, whether with a wheelchair or cane, and, be happy meeting new people and like to travel.

Saftey First for Senior Travelers

How to keep your money, valuables and your self safe while traveling the world.  There are people out there that wish to rob you of your hard earned money and valuables.  They make a profession out of it, by having some one distract you, while some one else will dive into your pocket or purse and take your wallet, passport and credit cards.  All the things you need to get safely back home.

How to prepare for this happening to you.  First research the area you are traveling to.  Search out the areas you will not be safe in and stay away.  Carry your money close to your body where it will be hard to get at.  A money belt or pouch, where you would keep money, credit cards and passport.  You could carry a dummy purse or billfold to satisfied the thieves for a minuet, so you have time to get away.  Do not wear your valuable jewelry and bobbles, they state that you are rich and vulnerable, making a good target.  Dress like the natives to blend in and not look like a tourist.  The main thing is to keep your valuables close to you, and to be aware of what is going on around you.

There are senior group travel organizations out there, that most seniors travel with.  These groups will make you feel safer, because you will be with other people your own age. And, there will be a guide with you, that will keep you away from the problem areas and they can help you recover your lost property if possible.

Baby Boomers

Who are the baby boomers?  They are the explosion of new born baby's, born between 1946 and 1964.  In 1945, the year World War II ended, there were 5 million baby's born and then the next year 1946 there were 47 million baby's reported born.  The last year of exceptionally large births was 1964, when there were 5 million birth's, sending the birth record back down to normal.

The baby boomers grew up first listening to radio programs.  Then in the early 1950's television was born.  I Love Lucy, Howdy Dodie, and Lassie, were some of the boomers favorite shows, to watch on TV or listen to on their transistor radios.  Motown, rock, and the Beatles, was their music.  Canada called them "boomies", and in England they are called "the Bulge".  But what ever they are called they ended up as our "yuppies".  http://www.retiredseniorsnetwork.com/blog/2010/03/14/baby-boomers.html

CPAP Breathing Machines and Senior Travel

CPAP breathing machines are not only for seniors, but any one who suffers from sleep apnea.  Sleep apnea is where you stop breathing while you sleep.  Without the machine you will wake up every morning feeling tired all day because, you didn't get the deep sleep you need, to get  through the day.  After a while it could cause your health to go down hill and even cause a fatal heart attack.  The CPAP can save your life.  To travel with a CPAP is a must, if you want to travel, so the travel industry has to acknowledge what it is and how important it is.

The airline industry has acknowledged the CPAP, and has a special procedure for you to go through, at the security check line.  They ask you to take the motor out of its travel case and put it through the x-ray machine alone.   They also recognize that the CPAP is important enough to have to go on the airplane with you, and not with the luggage.  When you get to where you are going, I don"t think the hotels, motels, and resorts, have the recognition yet, on what they have to provide you to use the CPAP.  What is needed is an electrical plug near the bed you will be sleeping in.

In my travels with a CPAP, I found that the plugs near the bed are for the lite on the night table, and the clock, that you can use to wake up by.  If I am lucky the plug is right behind the night table and all I have to do is unplug the clock and plug my CPAP in.  But I found in some hotels, motels, the plug is behind the bed and I can't get to it without tearing the bed apart.  The answer to this problem is to ask for a plug to be available to you, when you make the reservations.  The travel industry will eventually become aware of the CPAP and how important it is and will make it easier to travel with.
